Common Orthodontic problems
Orthodontic treatment can correct a variety of dental issues. Here are some common problems that orthodontists treat:
Crowding
Crowding occurs when there isn’t enough room in the jaw for all of the teeth to fit normally. Crowding can lead to teeth that are crooked, displaced, or turned.
Spacing
Spacing problems can occur when teeth are missing or when the teeth do not “fill up” the mouth. This can result in gaps between the teeth.
Overbite
An overbite, also known as a deep bite, is when the upper front teeth excessively overlap the bottom front teeth when back teeth are closed. This can lead to excessive wear of the incisor teeth and problems with the gums.
Underbite
An underbite occurs when the lower jaw sits in front of the upper jaw. This can create difficulties with proper chewing and speech, and in extreme cases can affect facial appearance.
Open Bite
An open bite is when the upper and lower front teeth do not overlap or touch when the mouth is closed. This can result in problems with biting and chewing food.
Crossbite
A crossbite occurs when the upper teeth fit inside of the lower teeth. This can happen on both the front and/or the sides of the mouth. This misalignment can cause wear of the teeth, gum disease, and bone loss.
If you’re experiencing any of these issues, consult with an orthodontist. They can provide a thorough evaluation and recommend the best treatment options for your specific needs.
